The six axes

Pivot & turn

How cleanly the shoe turns — the forefoot profile, pivot point or spin spot, and whether the sole releases on rotation instead of catching.

Floor grip

Traction on plant and stop, using a non-marking outsole. Scored for controlled hold, not maximum stickiness.

Cushioning

Impact absorption for repeated landings, and whether it holds up over a full class instead of packing out.

Lateral stability

Lateral support during side-to-side moves — the midfoot structure that stops the foot rolling.

Breathability

How well the upper vents heat and moisture over an hour of movement.

Lightness

Weight on the foot; lighter shoes turn and lift quicker, heavier shoes feel more planted.

Evidence levels — the honest part

Scores are judgements, and we tell you what each one is built on:

• Hands-on tested — we bought the pair and wore it through real classes.
• Community-verified — assessed from manufacturer specs plus consistent patterns across verified buyer and instructor feedback. Not personally worn by us.
• Spec-based — assessed from specifications and design details only, pending hands-on or community data.

You'll see the label on every review. We would rather show our working than pretend a lab exists.

How the shoe finder scores matches

The finder weights your answers: class type sets which axes matter most (Zumba favours pivot and light weight; dance cardio favours cushioning), your floor and concerns add or remove points, and a missing width in your size can rule a shoe out entirely — because fit is safety, not preference. It then shows the top three and the specific reasons each made your list.
